   The 3 C’s of diamonds. Color, Clarity, Cut. It’s all according to how nice you want it to look.

   Depends.

   For an ideal 1 carat, you’re looking at around $12 to $20,000. For a not so great 1 carat, you can find it for $5,000 or so.

   I would stay away from mall stores because its a total rip off. You pay all of this money only to get frozen spit.

   If I were you, I would go to You can tell them what you are looking for and they will find it for you. Registration is free and the people there are so helpful.

   They typically say 3-4 paychecks worth should be saved for the ring.

   Buy what you can afford. Don’t get a crappy 1ct diamond if you can only afford a near perfect .75ct diamond.

   Read up on the C’s of diamonds and go from there.

   Not sure why folks are voting me down - our ring cost less custom-made than it would have in a typical jewelry store. And I got to decide exactly how I wanted it done. Unique, beautiful and less expensive - so why the thumbs down?

   Their service is excellent. If you have a question, they’ll answer you honestly and thoroughly. They’re patient and professional. Trust me - I put them through a lot designing my ring!

   My fiance and I were both very excited about the engagement ring we designed. The diamond we purchased is beautiful and the ring is especially lovely. I would highly recommend talking to them to see what they could do for you.

   5,000+ for any 1 ct ring purchased new. But seriously, look into eBay. I got my engagement ring through there, its antique, and appraised for 3 times as much as we purchased it for. I can’t think of any jeweler in NYC that would charge “reasonable” prices, unless you go to Macy’s. Department stores can afford to buy in bulk

   Go on to bidz.com I bought my husbands ring there and the original price was 8,000 and i payed 275.00. They are real and nice and some come with certificates. The only thing with that is you have to be on top of it right before it ends and have a price you are willing to go to.

   Since there aren’t any good answers on here yet, I thought I’d answer.
   You need to do your research on the 4 c’s before you can make a budget and chose your stone.
   Check out and read up on the 4c’s. Then you can set a budget and decide what works best for you and her. The other site to check out is that is where my ring was made and it’s amazing! We got to pick out the EXACT diamond we wanted, on our budget and the setting as well! It’s a really good place and less than bluenile. You can make sure you get the exact color, clairity and cut you want. You decide what your ring looks like and the quality of it, not some chain store like Zales or whatever.

    go to a wholesale jewelry district and get educated on what to look for. Also, realize that you don’t need the PERFECT cut, clarity, etc because the next step down saves you a lot of money and is difficult to distinguish from perfect. we spent almost 4,000 on mine, it was appraised for 10,000

    James Allen has an office in NYC where you can see rings and diamonds. They also features true images for their diamonds which helps a lot if you want to see what you are getting before ordering it.
