Do you know about diamond rings?
crazylegs asked:
I am trying to invest in a diamond ring that is listed at 1,750 USD. Before receiving the ring I can pay $80 for a C.G.A. Gemologist report that values the ring. Can you sell a ring just based on this report and should I be worried that the company I am dealing with is Canadian? How much do you think a retail valued ring for 1,750 USD could be sold to a jeweler for? Any advice would be appreciated.

There is a tremendous mark-up between wholesale and retail prices for diamonds. Expect to get approximately half the retail price when selling. I have bought two diamond rings for my wife and she loves them. However, I don’t think of them as investments. Diamond prices over the recent 25 years have not kept up with inflation, so don’t expect great increases in price in the future.
